Dear C6VR members,

Posting on C6VR has all but stopped.  I'm trying to figure out what creates activity on any forum website.

I think the answer is this: Activity creates activity.

The problem, however, is this: There has to be activity to begin with.

So there has to be some people that post new threads. That should, in theory, cause people to reply to those threads and maybe post their own new threads. But what causes people to be "the first to post"?  I have no idea.

When Corvette Forum started, there were no posts. Just like any other site, it started with a blank slate.  So who were the first to post there? Why did they post there if there was no activity? Shouldn't whatever caused the first people to post on other new sites cause them to post here?

Is there something fundamentally wrong with this site that makes people not want to be the first to post something here?

I'm very much open to some suggestions here.  Please let me know your thoughts on what it will take to get activity going here.

Thank you for your support!

I hate to say it, but Social media has taken over for Forums to a large degree.

On Facebook, for example, you can start an affinity group with friends with a common interest and then allow others to invite like-minded enthusiasts to that group...

After a while, the "party" moves to that house.

At least this has been my experience.

I think you are right and my suggestion is that you should throw in the towel. All of the activity is on the Corvette Forum and no one ever heard of anything else. I, for one, am not willing to spend the time on multiple forums for each of my interests. I do not even review all of the sub-forums that I used to.

I don't  thing there is ONE  answer............
I post about my C6 when I discover something new or I need something, otherwise I just read and note to memory. Right now I continue to research C7 issues.  My most recent C6 topic was replacement of daytime driving lights.  The dealer initially wanted $ 175 and wanted to take off the front bumper ONLY to find out there is an access panel in  the wheel well for high beams and daytime running bulbs. Low beams are totally a different issue.

I agree with what the other posters have said about there being numerous C6 and Corvette sites that are very popular.  Even though I own a C6, I also belong to C3VR and have for over 10 years.  I have many good friends there and have attended 4 of the annual member gatherings.  That is the site that I frequent most because it is the one I am more familiar with.

I joined the C6 registry because of an overall interest in Corvettes. I don't have a C6, so my looking at the site is just that: interest, but not able to contribute anything of significance. I've noticed for a long time there are not many posts. Perhaps its because the Vettes are too reliable and don't have any problems to speak of. Perhaps they are so complicated that they have to be taken to a repair facility. Or, as stated, perhaps everyone is too busy being online social, which to my way of thinking is a big problem in this country. Cry

Its probably not worth the time and effort to keep the site up and running.

Ron

I think as some of the members have stated in previous posts, that there is just too much media to go around. I haven't been on this site in ages.

Currently I'm doing Facebook, The Corvette Forum, and now the new Stingray Forum. I still have my C6 Callaway, but I'm getting a C7 Premier Edition the end of next week.

I'm sorry thing aren't going well at this site, but that's life.

I am in a similar situation.  I own a C5 ... but have general interest in C6 (I will eventually get another Corvette ... not sure if it will be a C5, C6 or C7.  Though I may not be able to contribute anything of significance (FROM MY OWN PERSONAL VANTAGE POINT), I have no problem posting information related to C6 - if I see it elsewhere online.

With regard to reliability ... and nothing to post ... I disagree.  Currently, the C6 is a relatively new vehicle.  Many C6's are still under warranty.  The 2005 models certainly are not under OEM warranty.  It's a matter of time before the majority of C6 owners will have work performed at facilities other than Chevrolet dealers.  I believe throwing in the towel on C6VR would be a huge mistake.  I believe the forum will start to pick up more activity as the C6's age.

Adam - Knowing you have sponsors for this forum, would you consider asking vendors to post "points of interest" from time to time?  I am Secretary and Newsletter Editor of a local section of the Mercedes Benz Club of America.  I send out a monthly blog (not really a blog) ... called Monthly Mercedes Minute.  It is a compilation of links of general interest - as they related to Mercedes Benz in general.  The links may include a recall ... or a new model introduction.  In addition, it may also include information from a repair facility who brings awareness to current trends in the repair of late model MB's.  If we twist this concept to the C6 ... how 'bout a repair facility offer tidbits if they start to see (as an example) upper cylinder lubrication problems ... manual transmission issues ... anything along that line.

Corvettes are (perhaps) the most modified vehicle on the road.  Accordingly, I believe many people turn to websites with general Corvette interest ... such a CF.  I am a member on CF ... but do not look at the C1-C4 forums, nor do I look at the C6 Forum.  I have yet to look at the C7 forum, but may look to learn about the C7 (I am also a member on C7VR).  That being said, I see no difference between C6VR and the C6 section of CF ... with the exceptions of membership, and volume of posting ... and also ... CF has the ability to be click-ish.  Some people LIVE on those sites, and can be fairly rude to newbies.

It's a little harsh to say throw in the towel, or pack it up....easy to say if it's not your site, tho.
While I'll agree that most folks have gone to social media for their daily fix of tech forum life, I can't see that being the only reason. CF, CAC, and other forums still have activity. Perhaps it's the train wreck syndrome....see a train wreck, ya gotta look! I'm a member of several Corvette related forums, including the big name ones....and I can't/don't wanna spend any time there due to the BS, trash talkin, and other crap that goes on. Not my cup-o-tea.
Perhaps folks would rather be on a site/forum that doesn't care what anyone says/posts, and no-one has to take any responsibility for what they say/do....everyone is just anonymous.
Like any other forum, it's the MEMBERS that make it happen. The site owner/Mods can't do it on their own....the MEMBERS have to participate.
Maybe we should start a flaming war here....that'll get EVERYONE'S attention....and proly lottsa participation....

Not really....but seriously, the members are responsible for the success, or failure of the forum, imho. If the core group of posters here don't participate, it's not likely any newer members will, either. So, I'll throw out a challenge to the long time members here.....and the new folks too...POST SOMETHING!!! Even if it seems trivial. Tell a story about an outing you had that was interesting, or a breakdown, or dealing with your local dealer/repair shop. Find something strange under the seat? Post it up!
Thumbs Up

Adam, I for one really like the forum, it has helped me several times. At the moment I am working on my house and have not been able to spend as time as I would like out in the garage. I need to post pictures of my cars. 2005 coupe and a 2000 Convertible,my wife and I love our cars. Keep up the good work.  Jerry

Been reading the other post, I do not do face book, twitter, I do get on my laptop everyday. I guess that makes me ole school. I do text, and I do my best to help people with their problems on their cars, trucks and motorcycles. I am now retired from the following businesses, Automotive electrical, body and paint, full blown custom Harley motorcycle shop. I currently have a super nice Harley DWG for sale. Custom Bagger. If anyone interested, you can reply or ask for phone number. thanks again, and hey, don't give up. I'm also just now getting into hydrographics, which is pretty cool. I'm going to be 64 NOV, 21, and if anyone needs help with a question, Scorpioncycles.net@hotmail.com

Traffic is slow for all the Vette forums. CF is still busy, but I'd guess at a rate of 25% of the good old days. With the possible exception of Corvette Action Center, the rest of the forums aren't pulling their own weight. If I knew how to reverse the situation, I'd be a wealthy guy. You can point at other social media, but I don't think there is much of a Vette buzz anywhere, at least as a social catalyst.

Adam, I think that you're going up against Forums that have been around much longer. I can't tell you exactly what it is. Maybe the Corvette Forum is just esthetically more pleasing to the eye. My activity on both forums has decreased. It just seems that there's too much arguing when some one doesn't agree with a post. Maybe that's what you need more arguing........ I don't know how you go about getting sponsors but it looks to me as though you only have 4 or 5. It probably all goes hand in hand. Good luck. How is the C3 forum doing?

I think the comments about other social media are pretty close to the mark.  FB seems to be the most common methodology for communication with friends near and far.  I've belonged to other forums before, but slowly over time, more often than not, communications are taking place over FB.

However there's also something to be said about creating a sense of community, which to me seems to be an easier task with a forum than it is with FB.  So maybe the solution isn't about the forum as much as it is the vehicle for the forum?

My point is this; Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, etc., all have one thing in common....  They can all be easily accessed via a cell phone app.

I'm not sitting at a desk every day (thank God) and when I get home I don't usually bury myself in my computer, but I almost always have my phone with me and whenever I get a ding or beep or whatever, I know there's an email, voice mail, or FB notification, waiting for me and I usually respond.  Hell, let's be really honest who here hasn't has a his phone or iPad with him while sitting on the John?  Now... think again... how many of us are likely to bring a laptop into a John?

So it's not about the forum per say, it's really about the ease and convenience of being able to access the forum.  Keep the forum going if you can, but improve the accessibility and I think you'll see a lot more activity.

It was my first site and continues to be the strongest one. Yet, that has been seeing a slow drop off as well.  I think the focus is shifting to social media sites, as many have mentioned above.  If I knew the traffic numbers for CF, and saw that they too were dropping over the years, I'd probably feel a little better that it isn't just me.

And making the site more mobile friendly is something I know I need to get working on.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Keep them coming!

I joined this forum about the same time I bought my new C6 and also joined CF then too.  Initially, there was much more activity on CF, so I stopped logging on to your site and spent all of my Corvette related time on CF.

I'm not a member of any of the social networks previously mentioned (Facebook, Twitter etc), so that's not a factor for me.  I have a BMW and Mercedes also, and spend a lot of time on one forum for each of the other brands of cars I have, but not more than one.  In my case, I have selected one forum for each car and I rarely visit other forums for these cars.  In the case of my C6, it is CF, because it had more activity when I was initially looking for a good Corvette forum.
Nothing personal, it's just the way it worked out.

I only visit C6VR when I get an e-mail from you, prompting me to visit, but I usually find no activity, so don't bother to return.

Having ordered a C7 in February I have been primarily been on the Corvette Forum site.  You’re correct in that more posts yield more posts.  Suspect I’ll wind down posting when all the issues or new items are added, as I did with my C6.

I don't know.  Sometimes these things aren't super user friendly.  I have been on the other forum and looked at things, but haven't posted anything because my 2012 convertible hasn't had any issues, other that the first month I had battery problems and I had a really hard time convincing dealer to replace the battery.  Eventually he did and it's been fine since then.  I have over 20,000 trouble free miles now, and tires still have some miles left in them.

I usually post Corvette Racing media material on this and 12 other Corvette forums.   Of these 12 forums maybe 4 of them are very active.  The other 8 has about the same or even less discussions than the C6vr forum!  Forums are important because it is easier to discuss in greater detail your particular post.  However a lot people do spend time on facebook, mainly just to see what "friends" are doing.   I think there are so many social media pages to choose from, so little time, that you just can't visit them all in an evening or week.  Not sure the solution as other forums are in a quieter mode than this one.  I would hate to see it closed but not sure how you are going to encourage more participation.  Does the C6 forum have a facebook page?

Adam,

I can only reply based on my feelings and my use of the site. First I would like to say my first attempt was to ask about a problem I had but received only one answer to my question. I have answered several requests for help and information.

Second I am always forgetting my sign-in information. I also find it hard to get around within the site and how to start a thread.  Putting a picture on the site is another problem.

Sorry, but that is my problem with the site and I'm sure others are less challenged than I.

Well Adam I think this is the most threads I have seen to one question on here. It's hard to compare this site to the C3VR. We are looking at two different types of folks I think. This site we have newer cars and most don't really have to do much work on them. Our other site is a bunch of gear heads and most of us do are own work on a machine that takes a bit more attention. Most of us on the C3VR have meet at one time or another and that builds a different kind of forum, they are a good bunch of folks and get along very well together.
I have posted on this site and have had some good feed back from the members that do post. I just have not had that much to talk about with the C6. If I see something I know about I will make a post but most of the time just read. The site does have some good features, like the filter for ebay, I have used it.
I would say give it a chance, I know that most of the members in my corvette club are into really modifying their cars and go to the sites that deal more with that, this would be a little slow for them, like me!
I hope this gives you a little more insight and help.

I really can't give you an answer except for why I am not here as often. When I got my first C6, was on here quite a bit, just to see what others were saying. Now being on my 2nd one, not really anything I don't know about it, and fortunately, have had zero problems with both. However, I actually do come to the site a couple of times a week, I just don't sign in unless to answer a question (if I know the answer or solution), but those to have become few and far between. I think it may be due to the fact (think someone else already said it), that these cars just don't have a lot of problems anymore, so probably not a lot to post about.

The new stingray has popped my C6 bubble. I still love my car but it ain't the top dog anymore;(    I just put some non run flats on the front @ 30K miles and it feels like I'm riding on air but it still handles great. Any thoughts on mixing non run flats on front with runflats on rear?  Thanks Steve

Adam, I think you're correct in the fact that activity creates activity.  But as others have said the lack of needing to do hands on things to the C6 (other than washing, waxing, and simple visual upgrades) and the ease of interacting with social media have cut into the more "traditional" forum based sites.

I used to spend a fair amount of time at CF and CAC, even the ZR-1 Net Registry, but after getting flamed repeatedly at those sites I have stopped going to them (got better things to do with my time than to put up with some blockheads).  CF and CAC do have a lot of traffic but the organization of those sites makes it difficult to find topics that you're interested in.  When I wasn't able to find a particular topic I'd ask a question and then get jumped on for bringing up something that had been discussed years ago.

C3VR was the first place I found where there never was any bashing or flaming tolerated (Adam has been very adament about that guiding principle and has carried that into each site he has brought life to). That has cultivated a strong fellowship amoungst a fairly large core group of C3VR members who have a devout love of that generation.  I've developed friendships there with folks across the country - many of whom I have yet to meet face-to-face.

After adding "The Beast" to the garage I started spending some time on the (then) newly hatched C4 site, C4VetteRegistry.  That site has gone through some of the same growing pains that this site is experiencing.

I joined C6VR when it started up becuz I have an interest in the C6.  May never own one but ya never know.  Two other "toys" in the garage have taken time away from the Corvette world as research needed to be done for projects on them.  Also overall my available web time has diminished and has been segmented as well to other places.

I think that is also a factor in reduced traffic here - folks probably just don't have the available free time that they used to.

Having said all of that (sorry to have rambled abit) I think it is just going to take some additional time for this site to build up some momentum.  Today's environment is very different from what is was when C3VR came on-line a dozen years ago.  Bottom line though is the current membership has to be more active to infuse some life into the site which will in turn interest more folks to see what is going on here.
