I'm new to Corvettes and the forum.  I have a 2013 C6 LS3 Coupe owned 16 months and 3400 miles.

I have a question:  My salesman at Kerbeck Corvette had recommended that
I change all fluids (engine, brakes, clutch, power steering, transaxle) at 3,000 miles.  Use Mobile 1 only for engine and other applicable reservoirs. The engine oil was changed due to a pressure sensor service bulletin on the oil pump at 2,000 miles under warranty and I have about 78% engine oil life remaining.  Is the complete fluid change really required or is that simply a recommendation by the dealer?  What is the word by other C6 owners?

I would recommend the engine oil change at 3000m (use Mobil 1 only) as at this mileage the engine is broken in and changing the oil will get rid of any metal shavings that naturally happen during the break in period.  As far as the other fluids, there is no need to change them.  Maybe the trans-axle gear oil should be changed at 25k miles or sooner if you get squealing noise from it.  Brake fluid is a totally closed system and should last practically for ever unless the system has been opened due to a repair or breakage.

I think the dealer (which by the way is supposed to be a reputable one) is trying to get you to fork over some $$$.  Unless there is a reason why all fluids need to be changed (accident or similar) then they do not need to be changed.

One other note, the driver information system measures the engine oil life.  Go by it, not a salesman recommendation.

My $0.02 cents

Rene, thanks for your response.  Since I still have a good amount of life left on the oil and the oil pump change out flushed any metal from the break in, I should be good to go for some time.

I have an '05 coupe that has 130k miles on the odometer from long distance trips to Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, Georgia, New York (City; Long Island and Upstate) and Canada.

I generally change the oil when the remaining life gets to 50%... occasionally, it will get below 40% but never lower.  I have never used anything other than Mobil 1 in the engine and other GM fluids in the other components.  I change out the trans, clutch, diff and brake fluids every 50k miles and have had no problems with anything.

I don't track the car but I do enjoy "spirited" driving when the opportunity presents itself in a safe environment.

Follow the manual intervals, stay with Mobil 1 and GM fluids and you should have no problems.

HTH...

Do you know what is the full interval recommended for Mobil 1?  In other words, what mileage would 50% or 40% translate to?  I am a firm believer in using synthetic oil from my early days (45 years ago) of flying helicopters with turbine engines.  I put Mobil 1 in my Jeep Wrangler too.

Thanks for the input.

Ed: If you use the car aggressively the computer will adjust the oil life percentage accordingly.  Under normal driving conditions from 95% life to, say 25% would translate to some 10,000 miles.  High speed (or Interstate speeds) or 75 MPH or a bit higher will shorten this period to some 7000 or 8000 miles.  That is what I  have experienced in my car which has been all over the eastern USA and Canada.  I suggest, however, to never go beyond 10,000 no matter what the % life remaining says, change the oil and reset the computer.

One more point on fluid changes. If you have a manual trans you should change the clutch fluid when it looks dirty in the reservoir or the car starts to not drive smoothly on hills when letting the clutch out. The can be done with a turkey baster by sucking out the old fluid, replacing it with high quality synthetic brake fluid like mobil one type and pumping the clutch about 20 times with the fresh fluid in. if it still shows not clear after keep repeating until the fluid in the reservoir is same color as out of the bottle of synthetic brake fluid. Be careful not to spill this fluid on the the paint as it will eat it off. Rig up a plastic sheet around the reservoir that will cover the fender etc but still let you perform the changeout i.e. cut a small hole for filling and forming around the vessel.

Just another 2-cents worth - - I have a '06 C-6 Coupe purchased new (12 miles) and now have over 60k.  I use Mobil 1 (a full synthetic) exclusively and, except for the 1st oil change which I did at 500, I use the oil life monitor and change at about 45%.  I also use a K&N oil filter.  Since I drive it in a "spirited" manner and often on mountain roads, I opted to change the transmission and differential at 60k and used a FULL SYNTHETIC (exceeding mfr specs).  The fluids that were removed were not excessively dirty.  My brakes (I don't use them much!) are at about 50%.  I plan to flush/replace the brake fluid when I renew the brakes.  Engine coolant is original and tests fine (I live in Northern Nevada where it does get below freezing but I park when the roads are icy).  Note that GM's "DEXOS" lubricants are only a partial synthetic.

OK, here's my 2 cents worth.  My dealer told me to absolutely NOT change the oil the first time until the DIC tells you to.  This turned out to be at around 10,000 miles.  However, they did not offer, nor would they when I asked, do an oil analysis.  So I had this done myself at a reputable oil distributor, for a small price.  What showed up was a lot of metal particulates.  The rest of the info was OK.  So we decided to keep a close eye on this.  I do not believe they use "break-in" oil anymre.  This is Mobil 1 oil put in at the factory, the same as you can buy at the auto parts store.  Mobil 1 is a very good synthetic oil that is good in any car for many ,many miles.  I don't have a problem leaving it in for 10,000 mles.  On to my next oil change and oil analysis.  The metal particulates were down but still too many to be comfortable.  So now I change my oil filter at every half oil change (around 5000 miles) and it checks out OK.
All other fluids I would follow what the servic manual (or owners manual) says.  Except for the clutch fluid mentioned above.  When you can't see the bottom of the reservoir, its too diry.   Use a turkey baster to draw out as much fluid a you can and pour in new fluid.  I have had to do this several times.  I was told to use GM brake & clutch fluid p/n 88958860.  I hope this helps.

I read all that was said  I think 6 to 7000 miles change on mobil1 is fine,in my service bays I suggest changing brake fluid  15k,if use synthetic  brake  it does,nt have to be changed,i have changed clutch fluid in my 07 many times it always black and gets hard to shift, this seems to be a problem but have seen a reason?    dwaBeer

Wow. there is a lot of great info on this thread...  I bought a 2013 coupe new and the only fluids that I changed were the motor oil.  I think that unless you have mechanical issues with drivetrain or with leaks then I would just follow the owner's manual recommendations exactly. I should also mention that I park my C6 over the winter and just do an oil change before storing it no matter what the mileage is...  I also plan on doing an oil analysis when I change the oil this fall.
