So, do you own a Corvette as a signal of your own personal success, or ?.

1975 Corvette Stingray Coupe. Owned because my uncle has a 1980 that he bought new and had around when I was a child. I fell in love with C3s and when presented with the opportunity to borrow my dad's money and buy a Stingray...wild horses couldn't've dragged me away! Its nice to have as a babe magnet too, but does little good as its been in the shop for over 2 weeks now(the most recent time total approx 1.75 months of last two).

As a technical person and an enthusiast I had driven most generation of Corvette over the years and alway's thought they lacked refinement. A friend bought me over his '97 C5 right after buying it. As I drove and played with it more, I finally thought to myself GM got it right.

Started planning on buying one as soon as the released a hard top option with them. We all know that didn't happen. So I decided the 50th Anniversary was for me. Bought it because I love cars and thingk it's the ultimate. Not to impress any one or think I'm better than any one. Just because I think it's the best thing to come out of Motor City in a long time.

I drive Corvettes because they are fun to drive, handle exceptionally well, and are quick.

I have a Corvette to have fun, modify for performance, personalize for appearance. This affords me to meet new people, at shows or anyplace where people gather. Learning about the Corvette family of friends was a real bonus....nothing like having
*fun friends that have a Corvette*.

Driving a fast sports car is a magnet....people
ask what exhaust system you are using, or where you got
this and that...great conversation starters.
Some ask if I need a co-pilot....

Just because I can.

I own a Corvette again now because the kids are grown, out of college and its time. When I was 19 I bought my first Vette, a 1967 because I had "sneaked' several drives in my fathers 1966 427/390 with 4.11's when I was 17. I was forbidden even to sit in it but how could you walk past this machine and just look. The odometer was broken, so I would go to the gas station, have them pump the gas until the fuel guage was where it was before I took it out. I was hooked from the get go. On the night before my wedding, while having a few drinks with my dad, he started a conversation with "so how did you like the vette? Caught ! and even though it was 8 years later I was a bit nervous. As I just sat there, he countered with "pretty neat yeah?. I must say, being a C1/C2 guy, I was apprehensive about the new C6 but thought this will be the one. Put my deposit down and waited. The more I waited, the more I read and the more it became obvious that the last year C5 at a great price was the way to go. So a long story made longer, 3 months after my 50th Birthday, I closed the deal on a 2004, Mag Red, 6 Speed Coupe and have been smiling ever since.

Just because I like it to have a car that is rare.
And when I bought it, back in 1982, it's horsepower was more than most other cars that drove around in our country, and also double of the car I drove normally ( a Fiat 131 Racing, probably never sold in the US )
