I have just purchased my Z51 and wonder if anyone has an easy answer/product for the removal of the ring of surface rust on the rotors where obviously the pads do not make contact? Looks very unsightly against the chrome wheels!
Also does anyone have a suggestion for keeping the black plastic parts in the engine bay looking factory fresh with a nice shine?

Thanks!

Rotor Rust:  Are you saying the pads are not in contact with the entire rotor?

Black plastic / engine bay:  Anything that restores BLACK back into plastic (ie: products for bumpers, exterior trim).  There are also other generic products made by Eagle One and Turtle Wax Ice that are easy to use as well.

Take the car out for a spin ... use the brakes.  It's a matter of fresh, exposed metal, meeting the elements.  I would not want to put ANYTHING on rotors, as it would likely have a negative impact upon its ability to stop the car properly.  It's like the old joke about the disgruntled woman who constantly nagged at her husband about the squeaking brakes brakes on her car.  The husband asked if she wanted him to OIL THE BRAKES!?

Other than that, does anyone else have input?

Or, instead of rotor center covers, you can use High Temp paint in a color of your choice.  Just be sure to protect the rotor surface so that paint only goes to the hub.

sure you can paint rotor centers  but the chrome center covers sure look good behind chrome zo6 wheels  you can also get stainless steel outer brake pad covers look great if you are a detail freak like me

My Vette had surface rust on the rotors when I bought it. According to dealer it had sat in showroom from Dec '08 until I bought it in Aug '09.  Came off line Bowling Green Nov '08. All I did was drive it. When it (Vette) is really new they tell you not to use 'heavy brakes'. Just putting around will take care of it. The peice the rotor mounts on will not rust. Not to worry.

Actually this is NOT the problem. The rust is on the hub area, not the surface of the rotor that will disappear when the brakes are applied. Because the rotors are cast and not stainless steel, the rotor hubs and the area around the inside will rust eventually.

Since the original post I have painted the area with a similar factory grey ceramic paint. I have tried to upload a picture, but the file is too large to show you before painting.
