I park in my garage which is pretty tight to begin with. I also have a large, garage-width storage shelf up front and it would be difficult if not impossible to open my hood and get to the battery while parked in the garage.
Question: if the battery dies and I want to roll the C6 back or out of the garage to charge the battery, how do I get the auto trans out of park?

your car is not the issue it is your Garage! Make the Garage work for your car. It should be your cars home.
When I first start the car and put it into drive it makes a loud clunking sound, is this common for the 6 speed automatic

Good question, not sure but I can look in the service manual and see if it has anything in there about it. One option is to get a jump box that can plug into the lighter and give you power to make the shift out of park or even start the vehicle.
Hi FrankM,
Yes you have a potential problem. As I understand it there is a locking pawl that is controled by a solenoid. I had a failure on my 2005 in a garage. The car had to be picked up by a tow truck to remove from the garage. My suggestion would be to plug your car into a float charcer while parked which would keep your battery at full charge at all times and prolong the battery life. I use a Battery Tender which comes with connecting cables with a very convient plug which I leave sticking out at the rear of the hood. I can then plug and unplug without opening the hood. These are old posts.
I solved my potential problem by (1) trading in the '07 Automatic for an '08 w/manual xmission (also Z51); (2) backing into the garage; and (3) hooking up a Battery Tender.
My original question was more of a 'curiosity' type question
