During the past month I have had two episodes of driving the car for 10 to 20 minutes only to find the battery dead. The first time was weird in that first the doors were locked a I approached the car from the outside and as soon as I was able to finally get in the car it started up immediately. Thought nothing of it. Today, after being driven almost everyday during the past three weeks, I shut the ignition off and after everything shut down (not even the radio still playing after engine ignition off) the driver's door was locked and everything was dead. I tried to see if it was simply a cycling issue, but no...no start. The lady I was visiting at her business had a little Cobra jump starter and I got started. I had to stop for a business inquiry and luckily it was at a place were I could leave the engine running. When I got home, I put the Corvette in the garage and put my trusty Battery Tender on the battery. Is this battery cashing out, or do I have a charging problem? Meanwhile, I'm ordering a jump starter.

Another issue was last Thursday after I came home at night after a Corvette club meeting, the top would not go up. The owner's manual procedure for evacuating the pressure in the hydraulic pump is vague and there is no wrench in my center console for the hydraulic pump. I left the top down and covered my car with a California Pop Top to cover the interior. The next morning the top went up with no problem. Comments appreciated.

As an update, drove the car with the top down a week and a half after the above top incident and after several cycles of the top this past week, the top will not go up again. Parked in the garage until I can take it to the dealer to have the top issue resolved and the battery checked out.

Interesting.  My 2005 C6 convertible with 102K miles had a very similar experience with the top.  However, mine started in a closed position and would only open about 6 inches and then collapse closed.  The first dealer I took it to tested the system and determined that the motor was the issue and wanted $1,200 to fix it.  This was last December and getting into cold weather so I delayed the repair (I had other work done).  I just took it into another dealer in my area and they said that the top was working fine.  I also had the issue with the automatic trans and the shifter getting stuck in park.  That has been going on intermittently for around a year and the work-around was to shut it off and restart it with my foot firmly on the break (maybe several times) and eventually it would come out of park and into whatever gear I needed.  The second dealer was checking this out and broke a cable in the shifter so it is sitting in their shop for some undetermined period of time waiting for a replacement part.

I got the problem resolved, or I am hoping this is the remedy. I took my car to the local Chevy dealer and they had it for a few days. I asked them to also change the oil, and check the battery load test as well as the top and the no power issues. It all boiled down to a single nut retaining the positive battery cable to the battery post. Evidently, the locking piece to the cable was missing causing the battery cable to loosen. Thus, the mystery power failures, the windows not properly indexing, and the top power has been resolved. Another mystery raised its head when I stopped for gas on the way home. After refueling, I went to start the engine and there was nothing. Tried again and I heard a faint clicking. Tried the third time and she started. Whew! Anybody have a clue as to what caused that?
