Vette(s): Currently own 94 coupe, on waiting list for a C6.
This was mentioned briefly in previous post, wondering how many people paid for the R8C option on their C5s. Do you actually get to see YOUR car on the assembly line being built, or only after it rolls out of the plant? Other than the decal and plaque, was it worth the ~$500? Will this option be offered for the C6?

I used the Museum Delivery for my '02 coupe and will do so again for my C6. It's awesome. No, you really don't get to watch your car being built. For one thing, it takes several hours, bodies and chassis are assembled separately then mated, and watching it built wouldn't give the museum guys time to inspect and correct any problems before you take delivery.

But, in spite of that, the Museum Delivery is an awesome experience. You get an assigned representative of the Museum who handles your delivery (I strongly recommend Adam Boca). He takes you on a personally guided tour of the factory, then a personal guided tour of the museum. When you're done, you find your car roped off on the floor of the museum. It's as much fun as you can have in an afternoon fully dressed.

The added bonus in all this is that the museum folks are really fussy about quality control. When the program first started, they sent cars back to the line for all kinds of corrections. But, each of the cars scheduled for Museum Delivery are clearly identified as they come down the line. The factory people know what the Museum guys expect, and the cars come out really straight and clean. In my mind, it's the best $500 I've spent in years.

They also have the Corvette Experience. This allows us with older Vettes to retake delivery of our cars from the Museum. Gee, I wonder if they would send my car back to St Louis for things to be fixed. |laugh|

If they sent my 75 back to get fixed...I think it would take longer to repair than it did to build originally! |eek| |cheers| |laugh|

I think it would be cool to take delivery at the museum and would probably spend the $500 when I take delivery of my C7. No I don't have a pre-order or know when it'll be out or what it will look like, but realistically, that's about the time I'll be able to afford a new Vette.

I did the museum delivery deal. It's well worth the money.

Your car gets prepped by people that only work on Vettes and love vettes. The experiance makes you feel like a celebrity.

There is a customer contact manager that you can call. if it's posible they will tell you when your car starts trim line and you MAY be able to do first start on YOUR CAR. If there isn't anything happening your not supposed to see.

Of Course that means 2 trips to BG. I did both and it was the most special time I've ever had.

Thanks for the feedback all, and now for one more question....when you take delivery, is it assumed that you're driving your new baby home, or will they ship to the dealership at no cost/your cost? Love to pick it up in BG, just hate to rack up a quick 2K+ in miles driving back to CA.

Vette(s): previously owned 1961 dual 4's, 1962 fulie, 2 1969 coupes, 1977 coupe, 1970 454, 1978 coupe, 2 2001 coupes (2005 coupe high on list).
I am at a total loss, why do people think it's bad to put miles on a corvette ???? If your buying a new one drive it, it's never going to be worth what a 63 fulie or 55 or a big block 66. These cars are made to be enjoyed so drive the wheels off. (That's my thoughts anyway.)

While I don't agree with saying someone else is wrong for having the opinion that babying their car is a bad decision (it IS their car, and we're all friends here).
I DO agree that these cars are made to be driven! I love every moment I get to spend behind the wheel of my Vette (75). For me a car is not an investment, its a toy, drive it,love it, enjoy the he!! out of it and never regret it!! My uncle has an 80 with <15k Miles on it, and I love the fact that the car is unique in that aspect, but when its mine, its getting DRIVEN. They deteriorate sitting, they deteriorate moving, when are you having more fun?

It really is to be driven back. But if you make prior arangements with the delivery people ( Gary Cockriel, Darrel Lee) you may arange to have your vehicle picked up by a transport co. at your expense ( Recomend Reliable Carriers ) get it shipped Door to Door. Reliable uses enclosed climate controled trailers.

It really is a nice drive across country, but it's your car and your decision
