Starting this month, the GM Corvette Assembly Plant will begin installing the tools needed to build the next generation C6 Corvette. More than 87 different tools or sub-assembly stations will be installed in General Assembly alone. In December, they will actually build a C6 using the tools along side the line. No plant tours will be offered from December 1, 2003 to April 22, 2004 due to build plans for the C6. Training on the next generation Corvette continues in the Workplace Development Center. The Corvette Engineering Team including Dave Hill was in the plant on Wednesday to review progress with the C6. Stay tuned for more information.

My club was at the plant and we saw them installing the windshield on a C6 coupe. It was 3 feet away. The color looked like a pearl color but that may have been the florescent lights. There was cammo on the door and rear (no front panels or engine). The seats looked a bit "cushier" and were not sport type seats. We saw them putting the frame together in the frame shop and stacking them in the walkway. This was interesting - they were building them every 3-5 minutes. there were a number of colors though it was hard to compare to the C5 colors. the frame comes with the "rocker panel" already mounted. The rocker is smaller than the C5 - narrower not as wide. Saw a number of non C5 wheels laying around, some looked like the spy cars wheels only polished. They were NOT XLR wheels. We saw them building XLRs and the wheels were different. No one in the plant would reveal any info. We do know a few folks in the plant and they wouldn't talk, darn!
