All you guy's having issues with your tops need to check this recall out.
 

Gm has a recall on several Corvette's to replace the roof, the recall will go into effect Jan 2010.

NHTSA Campaign ID 09V491000         Gm Recall # 090230

Mine was making noise and they replaced the latches with new ones, this might change due to this new recall.

Is the recall on all models? I did not know this at the time, but when I took my Vette in for first oil change last month I was told that there was a recall on convertible tops. Something to do with separation. They installed some kind of little bracket. It took longer to do paperwork than to install the bracket.

Vert's must have had a different problem, when you go to the site you can look up all recalls and service bulletins. Here is the link.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Don't count on GM or your dealer knowing anything about this January 2010 recall on 2005-07 models yet.  I went to my dealer this morning and they had no information.  Then I called GM.  They too are ignorant even of their own campaign number!!  They referred me to the May 2007 recall where they checked for frame/roof panel separation.  At that time, despite creaking and popping sounds coming from the roof as the chassis flexed, they found no problem.  After that, an engineer from Bowling Green talked with me and suggested I grease the gaskets with a silicon grease.  That didn't help except to make a mess when I removed/replaced the roof panel.  Today they finally said to "wait for the letter".  And I added "or for the roof to blow off".  My nest call is to NHTSA.

NHTSA confirmed the campaign and further stated that they are receiving LOTS of calls about GM's "lack of knowledge".  The documents attached to the NHTSA recall notice from GM are interesting as well.

My dealer did replace my latches on my top, said there was a service bullitin to put new latches on to stop the popping of the panal. They just did this in Dec. So far it's working but we have had cold weather and it always made more noise when it was hot.

As I understand this recall - it is only for Painted Tops - not the Glass Tops - I myself have the popping sound with my glass top - does anyone else have this?

Could be the latch problem? They told me that the latches didnt draw down the top tight enough and the new ones do.

"Service Bulletin" is the term that should be used and not "recall". I don't believe that anyone has received a notice in the mail notifying them of the upgrade. My latches were changed last July (2009) only after I complained about the loud cracking noises.
By not issuing a recall, GM can hope to save a few dollars by not having to change the latches for those that aren't aware of the service bulletin or who don't complain about the noises.
