from the pictures we've seen so far, it looks like a hatch for the coupe. as far a what the new "zo6" will be, i like the trunk because it sets it apart. looks like a convertible with a hardtop.

Glass is heavy, and a big peice of glass in the back will mean more weight. They may do it, technology improves everyday. I did like the roominess of my Coupe as opposed to my Z06.

Think about it, what is more aerodynamic a coupe or a hard top. What body style is used on the C5R which has to be the fastest most aerodynamic. Based on this I think it will be a hard top with a hatchback. Thats my two cents worth.
Most Z06 speculation centers around an LS7 (approx 500HP) in a coupe body with several carbon fiber pannels likely including a fixed, non-opening CF roof, possibly a fixed CF hatch surround and hood of course. The a new clear polycarbonate material maybe substituted for traditional rear glass.
I think the Z06 will also be the first to use the aluminum hydroformed rails - some say a 200 lb weight savings that will eventually spread to the entire vette and XLR lines.

Can you say less body flex with a hardtop? You cannot compare the C5R as it has a polyurathane (sp?) back "glass" (less weight). It also has a roll cage for rigidity.

The FRC is not inherently lighter, it's lighter because the glass is lighter and the targa hardware is gone and - ok a couple of pounds less rear window vs hatch glass. Fuse the coupe top and hatch, use the thin glass or Polycarbonate and there is no significant difference between the FRC and coupe - except the coupe is much more Aerodyanamic - good for at least an extr 10MPH top speed.
