Be very careful when thinking about ordering a conversion from mallett. feb. of '06 i had my new vette sent from the factory to mallett. ordered the hammer package. everything was fine until last year '08 on my way to Bloomington Gold. i was not going fast or pushing the car, just driving with traffic. had a miss, tried to clear it and heard the most horiffic crunch you ever want to hear. had the car towed home. dismantled the engine down to the heads and saw a sunkin valve with a broken spring. this, after further investigation, broke both valves, crushed the piston, bent the rod, sent pieces of piston across the intake and got that piston. on the original piston, it cracked the water jacket, so the block was gone. so, all in all, i lost the block, 1 ported and polished head, 2 pistons, 2 rods, windage tray, scratched the cam. now this was pretty extensive. this was exactly 1 month past 2 years from mallett. under 10,000 miles of a 1 2,000-  24 mo. warranty. i asked for help. was put off until finaly i got an answer today 1-20-2009. they would help by offering to sell me the new parts. no help what so ever.     Sooo, be very careful when thinking about buying from these people.   yellow fever2009-01-23 11:22:39

Sorry to hear your troubles Curtis. Anything can go wrong with combustion engines. The way that Mallett handled your situation followed their warrenty based on your description (1 month over the 24 month warranty).

I would feel like you. For the money that is paid out a person expects more in return. But, I also would have to recognize their warranty document as being correct.

Hope you are able to get it back together to your satisfaction soon.....

Good Luck!

Given the circumstances, and assuming you did not contact Mallett in a boisterous rage DEMANDING a new car, I personally think they could have made SOME sort of good faith gesture to you.  Was their offer to sell the parts at retail, or wholesale?  If nothing else - wholesale would have been "something" - while not costing them anything out of pocket.  The good will would have accomplished a lot.

the price of a new cam was, 600-700, so i think that was retail. you are right, good faith and good name goes a long way. everyone in my club said the same thing. one month out and under 10,000 miles. and i was very nice and calm and polite and very patient. i mean this happened last spring. i called them from the side of the road when it happened. didn't want to do anything to upset them, so i called right away to let them know.  oh well, live and learn but don't expect.  ty, for your comment.
