I just got a recall notice for my '05 C6.  It is for the power telescopic steering wheel. Has anyone else got this?

I just received one in the mail also.

Fortunately....  too late.

I had my 2005 C6 in the shop too many times for this exact problem.
Message comes on while driving and brakes begin to grab.

most of the time got it back,  could not duplicate proble.  However, some times they did replace wheels sensors, brake sensors, steering sensors, (twice), harnesses, etc.

I took it into 4 different dealers in my area.

They even worked with the "Engineering brain trust" in Detroit who had assigned a Case number to this issue.

They still could not figure it out.  Confused

Once it was out of warranty, and they kept guessing, it was costing me $300 to $400 replacing sensors every time I was in.Ouch

Finally after telling me they were 80% SURE the "G sensor" in the dash was bad, (and that did not fit it either), I traded it in and bought a 2009 ZO6.

I couldn't be happier!

That's my kind of recall!  Wink

I have an 05, and have experienced that problem. I took it to the dealer twice, and of course couldn't replicate it. I have not received a recall. But I called the GM automated # and gave them my VIN, and according to them I have no recalls oustanding. Not too sure how to proceed from here. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Guys, I own a 2005 and I just got back from the dealer, had the recall done. 20 mins & all done. The fix entails installing a clip into a connector under the dash. I guess with the movement of the telescoping column the connector can become loose resulting in the "Service Handling System" message on the DIC.  I never experienced the loss of control but I did get the message in the DIC a couple of times. It working great right now.

I have a 2005 Conv.  I got the message on my DIC once.  I got the recall letter and I took it in to my local dealer here in Michigan.  They said my car had the clip on the wire and it passed inspection.  Took 30 minutes

Checked with chevrolet customer assistance regarding this recall and they claim to know nothing about it?? I used the phone number you provided and the program number.

I had this problem with my 2005 Z51 with tilt/tele wheel.  At first it was just a message on the DIC that read "Service active handling"  I had Onstar do a remote diagnostic and it read that the Steering Wheel Position Sensor was bad.  Then I had the problem with the brakes grabbing, that was scary the first time but after that I knew what to do, turn of the motor, restart and it goes away.

First thing I found was the TSB about installing the clip, this TSB later became the recent recall.  The clip did not fix my problem! I had to take my in to have the sensor it self replaced.  My feeling is that the clip will fix the problem only if the sensor hasn't become damaged.

For me I found that the problem occurred almost every time that I'd take a tight U-turn.  There is a U-turn on the way to my office so I make several U-turns everyday.

I also had similar problems with being told there were no listed recalls on my car and as of now the sensor replacement is not covered under the recall.  I have filled a report with GM and am waiting to hear back.

I have a 2006 but the vin was not in the range of the recalled vin's.  Call your local Chevy dealer and they will let you know if your vet is in the recall.
