2007 Conv. 5000 miles on the odometer - Did kind of a quick 3 point turn. Got up to about 50 mph and right side brakes LOCKED.

Pulled hard enough I needed both hands to hold it on the road. Gave it some throttle and finally released, did it a second time a few seconds later. Same thing, gave it some throttle and it released.

Pretty scary. Will have to go to the dealership this afternoon.

My Active Handling System service needed light just came on but no brake problems. I was doing a 3 point turn as well. I have 5200 miles on my 2006 C6 with Z51 package. The manual doesn't say much very clearly about this or any points that need service. I guess I'll be going to the dealership as well.

Thanks for the info. .....I did just that and it turned out to be the connector under the dash.

Hi Aaron,

2005 Coupe 25,000 Miles

Had the same problem twice as well

Scary would be an understatement!!

I Noticed that when it happen each time I had just washed the car.

First time at speed 45 or so right side locked up and luckily i was in the right lane and pulled right over.

The second on a sharp left turn and as soon as i hit the gas to straighten out it locked up the right again.

Each time i pulled over and shut down the car and gave it 5 minutes.
started back up and was fine for another year.??

I never made it to the dealer and figured they could not duplicate the problem so they would blow me off.

thanks Todd

I seem to have the same general problem on my 2005.  When it malfunctions, the active handling light displays, and service is required.  When that occurs, my break lights turn on all the time and the gear shift locks up.  Turning the engine off and back on (rebooting) seems to cure it for a while.  The failure happened one time more than 6 months ago, but occurred three times on a recent 2500 mile trip.   No failure for the last 1000 miles, nor at present.  Can't take it to a dealer until it fails permanently.  Acts like a computer problem.

They know what it is already..........have your dealer refer to  bulletin # 06-02-35-002B.  It is a bad connector under the dash that causes this according to the dealer  that corrected mine.  No problems since it was replaced.

I have a C6 2005 Vert with about 60K miles. I have had this same issue 4 or 5 times.  They keep replacing the sensor in the steering wheel but that does not seem to help.  Will let them know about the TSB

Thanks

OK, I looked up bulletin No. 06-02-35-002B and found out that there are problems with the SWRS (Steering Wheel Position Sensor) Connector under the dash on the Steering Column.  Evidently the metal contacts short out due to movement in the telescoping steering wheel.  I purchased the part that corrects the matter by insulating the contacts.  (Part No. 19179794).  A picture on the bulletin shows where the connector is located and where the part goes.  But the picture is not detailed.
Does anyone out there know where the insulating part goes??  Between the male and female connector parts??  Between the male contacts after disconnecting the connector??  Or???   I may be able to figure it out, but I haven't looked at the connector yet.  Any advice would be appreciated.

OK, haven't heard anything from anyone in this forum - Sooo
I decided to install the corrective part myself.   I  figured I could discover the correct way of installing it after I exposed the SWPS.  This is what I did.  It is unnecessary to disconnect the connector.  The part has 6 plastic fingers that fit into the the wire holes on the exposed side of the connector.  Inserting it puts pressure on the wire contacts forcing them to stay in place even though the steering wheel is telescoping in and out.  After it is inserted,  there are 6 triangular slots between the part and the side of the existing connector.  A wire fits into each slot which serves to keep the wires insulated from each other.  Two wires on each side.  I feel confindent that is the intended placement and use of the corrective part.  Car runs fine with no Active Handling light  and no Needs Service light displayed.  We will give it a few thousand miles to see if the correction is indeed permanent.
