Sir
Have you replaced the pasengers compartment airfilter?
If you open the hood, right behind the battery.
You will see a 12-14 inch pannel with 3 metal clips
remove this pannel and there is an air filter behind it.
I've heard some cars have one, some cars don't
Mine does.
Shujr

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, i have replaced the filter and made sure the drain was open. I have also tried various air freseners.

I am not a C6 guy, so I can't help any further, but to say *fresheners* will only mask the odor - and not mitigate the issue.

I have this problem in most of my cars. I don't understand what causes it either. Hopefully someone here has an explanation.

Most of your cars?  Unless the cars are all similar makes/models of the same manufacturing time-line, it sounds like it's a user situation.  Perhaps the vehicle was exposed to something ... maybe a car wash product or cleaning element infiltrates a fresh air duct ... rotting leaves / sap / mildew is another possibility, especially if it too, finds its way into the air ducts.

In lieu of using a hanging air freshener, consider using a freshening agent (in concentrate form) on a cotton ball, inserted into the fresh air duct, just inside the adjustable flaps.  These freshening agents are sold in concentrate form, but may not be available in all locations.  You may have to spend a little time looking at various retailers.
