I have an 05 C6 and the OnStar won't connect. I took the radio out of the car and decided that doesn't have anything to do with OnStar. I have called them several times, and three emails later still no answer. One person did tell me my system is analog and has to be changed to digital.

So, I called the dealer, they don't seem to know anymore than OnStar. Keeps telling me everytime I call that they are looking for a bulletin from OnStar.

Is there any help out there?

If your system is still analog, and assuming OnStar no longer operates in analog, you must upgrade the system in your car before you will be able to connect ... assuming you have membership.  Upgrading from analog to digital is not always inexpensive.  This upgrade had to be done on my wife's S500, when I purchased it from a dealer in 2007.

How long have you owned the vehicle?  Did you ever have OnStar service?  Did you let service lapse?  Did you get a notice about upgrading (or changing) to digital?

It would make sense to me, a local dealer would not likely have more information that OnStar ... as OnStar is proprietary to GM and a few other manufacturers.  The dealer would be able to install the system upgrade ... not sure if it makes sense for it to be accomplished by a layman ... unless the labor is excessive.

Good luck!

I've owned the car a little over a year about 16 months. I have never had OnStar, I was told by OnStar rep, that as a new member or owner of the car I could get 3 months free. I have called my GM dealer several times. They say they are looking into it. Have my number and yet to call me. OnStar tells me to take to the dealer and it's 600 bucks. What happened to free for 3 months??

In my experience, if you purchased the vehicle from a Chevrolet dealer (or alternate GM / Onstar dealer), the free period starts at delivery.  If you did not purchase from a Chevrolet  / OnStar dealer, I am not sure there is a free period.  Again, you need to go back to OnStar to find out the specifics of the promotion.  If you let the period lapse ... it lapsed.  It you did not qualify for the promotion ... you did not qualify.  This is really something you need to rectify with OnStar, and wherever you purchased your vehicle.  Again, if it was a private purchase, or purchased from a non-Onstar dealer, I am not sure you qualify for a promotion.  The $600 quoted from the dealer is likely a normal subscription fee (I believe there are multiple subscription plans available).

That aside, if the dealer said they are looking into it ... CALL THE DEALER (we can't get any information from the dealer or OnStar for you)!  I'm thinking it's a relatively simple answer ... either you qualify, or you don't.  You generally do not have the ability to determine when the subscription starts / ends ... rather ... I believe the subscription started 16 months ago, and has since expired.

I had the same issue with my 2005 C6, but both On Star and my dealer were very aware of the situation, and it was an easy fix. The issue is that by FTC rules, all cell service switched from analog to digital on January 01, 2008. Any old analog unit stopped working on that date. The fix is to convert the hardware in the car to digital. I had mine done in the fall of 2010, shortly after purchasing the car. OnStar had a deal at that time, and it only cost about $200 for the hardware, which the dealer installed. The deal required a one year subscription. My On Star works great now.  Let me know if you need more info, sounds like you need a more informed dealer...

Thank you guys, to both of you. It sounds like your both right. I thought a better dealer was my next step. Then having the car so long the promotion is over. I never thought of that. Thanks again.
