The rear diff oil should be changed before replacing diff clutches. I had same issue and new lube took care of it.

The car is just a year old, the oil shouldnt need to be replaced. If it cant last this long GM has a problem.I'm taking it in next week, let them deal with it I guess.

My car is an 07 and the noise stared less than a year after Ibought it (2006). The dealership told me the diff oil had been reformulated to stop what the call "Rear end chatter". It deffinitly worked for me. Good Luck.

I had the exact same problem/noise when backing out of my garage.  Took it to my dealership, they were aware of the problem along with GM.  They changed the lubricant in the rear differential, no problem since.  This was done over 6 months ago.  FYI:  I have a 2007 Z51 Velocity Yellow Coupe.  Covered under warranty.  Mike

There is a service bulletin number 070420002 that address this problem.  The dealers are quite aware of the problem.  To correct it the rear differential fluid needs to be drained and adding specified Limited-slip axle additive.  This is a toss up as to the dealer charging for the work or doing it under warranty.  The normal cost is $250.00.  Either way your car will sound a lot better if you get it done.  No more clunking from the rear after the car sit for a while and no more rubbing and clunking sounds on turns.  I had it done after I found the service bulletin and I would willing pay the $250.00.

I had a similar problem, when turning at a slow speed it felt as if the car's front wheels were scrubbing - like an old 4-wheel drive system on dry pavement.  Dealer changed the diff. oil and the problem went away.  The problem may have caused some uneven wear on the outside edges of both front tires.   I'm having that looked at this Friday.

GM has updated clutches that fix the problem for good  no matter how many times you change the diff fluid and add the additives untill you have the upgraded clutches installed the problem will come back  I hope for your sake you are still in warranty when it does !

When I had my 2008 C6 in for service (replacing air conditioning condenser because of a small crack) the mechanic was changing fluid in a 2007 Vette.  He told me about the service bulletin and I told him I heard a slight noise from time to time.  He had me read the service bulletin which said in some 2007 and early 2008's the clutch additive had not been installed properly or some such wording!  He drained the differential fluid and one that had the friction modifier included-no charge.

Of interest, after three years in service I had a loud chatter in the 9" Ford rear end with positraction in my Chevy 502/502 powered '34 Street Rod.  Called Currie who built the narrowed rear and they said to drain the rear end fluid, NOT to use synthetic fluid, and use the additive.  I used a standard lub with the additive already included.  That was 3 years ago and no problems since.  I do not drive the car accept to car shows which is one reason the clutches were sticking, according to Currie.
