The car is just a year old, the oil shouldnt need to be replaced. If it cant last this long GM has a problem.I'm taking it in next week, let them deal with it I guess.
My car is an 07 and the noise stared less than a year after Ibought it (2006). The dealership told me the diff oil had been reformulated to stop what the call "Rear end chatter". It deffinitly worked for me. Good Luck.

I had the exact same problem/noise when backing out of my garage. Took it to my dealership, they were aware of the problem along with GM. They changed the lubricant in the rear differential, no problem since. This was done over 6 months ago. FYI: I have a 2007 Z51 Velocity Yellow Coupe. Covered under warranty. Mike
There is a service bulletin number 070420002 that address this problem. The dealers are quite aware of the problem. To correct it the rear differential fluid needs to be drained and adding specified Limited-slip axle additive. This is a toss up as to the dealer charging for the work or doing it under warranty. The normal cost is $250.00. Either way your car will sound a lot better if you get it done. No more clunking from the rear after the car sit for a while and no more rubbing and clunking sounds on turns. I had it done after I found the service bulletin and I would willing pay the $250.00.
I had a similar problem, when turning at a slow speed it felt as if the car's front wheels were scrubbing - like an old 4-wheel drive system on dry pavement. Dealer changed the diff. oil and the problem went away. The problem may have caused some uneven wear on the outside edges of both front tires. I'm having that looked at this Friday.
