After we took a long trip and the car ran flawlessly, it sat covered for the past 2 weeks. I live in Florida and a few nasty storms came through. I decided to start and run the car. It started right up and ran. After 10 minutes it shut off by itself. I couldn't restart it by pushing the button up to start. I pushed the button down toward acc. and it clicked, the dash came on and it started. I shut it off and after I took my finger off the button, It clicked again and the dash lights came on as if it was going to start again. At this point nothing was shutting off the accessories. (the service soon message was coming on also) I was finally able to get everything shut off..then I locked the car.
Has anyone experienced this ..? Could it be in the switch..? Could the damp weather and extended non use cause an electrical glitch.? Thanks for taking the time to read this...and your HELP..!

UPDATE: After I posted, We started the car and it ran fine..! The only difference was the Service Engine Soon prompt came on the display. I shut it off and restarted it, the message went away. We took it for a ride and everything was fine. The next day rained very hard, but my G.F. took it to work...again it ran great.  On her way home, while she was driving (60 m.p.h.) the engine shut off..! After a few times of trying to start it, she let it sit for a while. It then started, and because it was running, we took the Vette to a qualified GM mechanic (expert in Corvette repair) and he check it for codes. Nothing..! Everything checked out fine..! They kept it overnight and the next day tried to get the Vette to duplicate the problem. The expert had a few ideas that may have caused the problem. Because it sat unused and covered in the wet weather for almost 2 weeks(it was damp inside the back compartment) the moisture played havoc with the electronics..also he said if the ECM senses a low voltage or not enough, it may cause the engine to shut down(to protect the electronics) also a possibility that the key FOB was not being sensed due to an electrical glitch brought on by the moisture. At this writing, the Vette has ran fine since.

I HAVE FOUND THAT A WEAK BATTERY IN THE FOB WILL CAUSE ALL KINDS OF STRANGE THINGS TO HAPPEN ON A C-6 CORVETTE. WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY 2005 CORVETTE I WAS CLEANING THE INSIDE WITH THE DOORS SHUT, I PUSHED THE THE DOOR OPEN BUTTON AND NOTHING, THIS WAS BEFORE I LEARNED OF THE INSIDE DOOR RELEASE, I WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THE CAR, I HAD TO REMOVE THE TOP TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. JUST A SHORT TIME AFTER THAT I WENT TO START THE CAR, DEAD AS DOOR NAIL. TOOK THE BATTERY TO GET A NEW ONE, HAD IT TESTED, BATTERY TESTED FINE. ALL THE PROBLEMS WERE INTERMITTENT, I TRIED TO UNLOCK THE DOOR WITH THE FOB ONE DAY AND IT WOULD NOT WORK, SO I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE BATTERY IN THE FOB AND SINCE THAT DAY I HAVE NOT HAD A FREAK PROBLEM WITH MY CORVETTE. KEEP FRESH BATTERIES IN THAT FOB OR YOU WILL BE SCRATCHING YOUR HEAD LIKE I WAS.

Your owners manual will tell there is a slot next to your open glove box to insert your fob if you are experiencing problems or if the battery is low in your fob. Are you also aware that there is a button you can push next to the key slot under the trunk that will open the trunk if you have your fob close by?

Last summer, I jumped into my Corvette, drove out on to the street.  About 200 feet from the house, I decided to stop and return to retrieve a forgotten item.  I came to a full stop, grasped the Automatic Transmission selector; it would not move from the Drive position.  Coincidentally, the car would not respond to a press of the ignition switch, remaining running.  I gave it a "Field Calibration" (smacking the lever hard!) but it would not disengage.
This occurred at about 06:00 A.M., prior to the Dealer's opening time.  I considered engaging the emergency brake and placing a note on the windshield:  "DO NOT STEAL THIS CAR!"
I reconsidered and drove to the Chevrolet Dealer service garage.  The Service Garage still locked tight, a man was walking about inside.  I honked the horn; he responded by pointing at his watch.  I approached the garage window and pounded for attention.  Thankfully, he came to within hearing distance.  I explained that the car would not turn off nor shift out of drive.  He opened the service door, allowing me to drive in.
Engaging the Emergency Brake, we then raised the hood and disconnected the battery.  The engine stopped.
Service Techs found the problem to be a linkage plate within the Shifter. Linkage Plate replaced and operating correctly ever since.  They did find a service bulletin for this very thing.  WOW!
