Automatic transmission sometimes won't shift out of park.

I believe there may have been a recall issue on this, but can't remember for sure. Have you spoke to your local Chevy dealer about it. They would have a record of it. Not even sure it was for the C6 model, but do remember something about this issue.

Worth calling your local dealer or doing a web search for possible recall. Would make suggestions of things you could try, but all pretty obvious (position of wheel, up down, in out, etc...). Could also be the sensor relay (or whatever the correct name is) where it recognizes you have your foot on the break when moving out of park.

There is/was a discussion here:

But would still suggest you contact your local dealer. Maybe some of the linked discussions will give your dealer some starting points.

I've heard about this before. Not sure if there's a recall or not, but sometimes if the trans won't come out of park, you can push a little harder on the brake pedal. There's a pin at the trans shifter that must be released to allow the trans shifter to be moved from park. It's a safety feature. When you start your car, try to listen for a "click" when you press the brake pedal, you may even be able to feel it at the pedal. If that doesn't happen then that pin hasn't released the trans shifter. Pushing just a little harder on the brake pedal may allow the shifter to be moved out of park.  Good Luck.
Thumbs Up

This is probably the most frequent problem discussed on all forums.  Many have spent much money on fixes that don't usually solve the problem.  It appears to be a BCM issue.

Hold the accessory switch on for 5-7 seconds until the ignition turns on. Then press the brake pedal, the selenoid will click and the hook will disengage.  Shift to Neutral and start the engine.  Then shift to whatever gear you wish.

Another sure fire fix is to take out the shift mechanism and cut the plastic hook.  Some have done that.  No diagnostics are registered.

Happy cruising.

Frank

This happened on my 2005 with extended warranty. The replaced the entire shift assy because they do not supply individual parts. A while after replacing it happened and I would get behind the car and push/rock it and it would unlock. This happened about 4 times until last Dec 2013 when I sold it and replaced it with a 2010 grand sport which was replaced by my 2014 vert what a car. Still have the 10 & 14 in two different locations. I consider myself a very luck guy.

I had this problem with my 2005 auto convertible. It happened to me 3 times and I decided to check on the form and found many ideas.  I took my corvette to my Chevy dealership and had the mechanic run a complete check on all the functions of the park release. He did no find any problems with the car, however he was able to duplicate the problem by grabbing the gear shift than pressing the brake . This would cause the gear shift to jam . Since than I make sure that I press the brake peddle and listen for the the click and I have not had it jam since

Thanks for the suggestion, Vgolini.  I've been having the Stuck in Park issue for the past 8 months or so.  I plan to try this solution.  Because, as noted, it is intermittent I have no idea how long until I know it is working, but with 98K miles on this daily driver I should know soon.

Update:  I've been practicing not touching the shift lever until my Vette starts.  Foot on the break, start the car, shift into drive or reverse, take my foot off the break.  Hasn't jammed since.  Great advice and very inexpensive.  Again, thanks for the post.

I had the cable replaced on mine like 3 years ago fine ever since. Would be a real pain in the butt if it wouldn’ shift out of park and you would have to get it towed .. think it was like $150.00 at dealer ship..
