Any other TiVo fans out there?
I think TiVo is the best thing since sliced bread!
I like it so much, I got a second one for my bedroom.

OLD thread ... but thought I'd share what I know (since I am also contemplating TiVo):
This is a subscription based service ... and will record what you want ... whenever it is on. You can program it to make suggestions about similar interests / programs as well.
Adam - Do you have the 35 hour TiVo unit? Is that sufficient?

TiVo is $4.99 per month through DirecTV. You must also purchase the TiVo unit. Most retailers charge about $100 for a 35 hours unit ... and several hundred dolalrs ($300+) for an 80 - 100 hour unit. Essentially ... they are sort of like a DVD-based VCR ... except that they interact with live television (satellite, etc)

It costs $12.95/month or you can pay a one-time "lifetime subscription" fee of $299. "Lifetime" in this case is lifetime of the TiVo unit, not the owner's lifetime.

I have two TiVos... one in the bedroom, one in the family room. The one in the family room is 80 hour, the bedroom is 40 hour.
I have not had an issue with running out of space yet. I have had the 80 hour for almost 2 years now.
As long as you don't want to keep many things (long things) saved for a long time, you'll be fine with either.

You can get TiVo by itself. You don't HAVE to get it with DirectTV. The TiVo stand alone unit works with antenna, cable and satellite receivers.
Adam - $12.99 per month? Through who? It's $4.99 per month when you have DirecTV. Quick question for you ... can you copy stored shows from your TiVo onto VCR, etc. (for permanent storage)?

When you get the stand-alone box, it is a subscription right from TiVo.
Yes, you can save to VCR.
