It has now been over 1 year since I was laid off from my last job. Since that time, with the exception of a 3 month period, I have been searching for full-time employment in the Information Technology (IT) field. As of yet, I still have not been able to find a position. I have sent resumes in response to dozens job postings, I have had less than a dozen interviews.

My hopes in posting this message is to try to network and get the word out there that I am looking for full-time employment in IT. Any help that you could offer me in my search would be greatly appreciated. Here are some examples of how you can help... Check your employer's job postings for any IT positions that I may be suited for and let me know about them; pass my contact information on to the manager in your company's IT department; send my info to others that you know of that work in an IT position; let me know of any companies that you know of that may have a need for my services; let me know of any job search boards, IT recruiters or other sources that you know of that may lead me to a job; simply keep me in mind if you hear of openings anywhere; offer any advice on job searching/networking; etc.

I have 10 years of experience in the IT industry. I have done analysis, design, development, implementation, team leadership, mentoring and led formal training classes. My main experience is with Visual Basic, ASP and SQL. I am looking for a Development, Team Leader, Project Manager or Functional Analyst position. I am looking for work in the Philadelphia, PA metropolitan area.

Of course, if you or someone you know would like a copy of my resume, just ask.

Thank you very much for offering any help that you can.

A thought occours, have you checked with the local universities and feeder schools? Temple Penn State etc? I know that at least here IT people are in fairly high turnover.

The best source I found were

Brilliantpeople.com

Headhunter.com

Carrierbuilder.com

Most state goverments have job boards posted online as well as the Employment services dept.

After going through this several years ago. The best thing I can tell you is talk to several Head Hunters and let them do the leg work for you. I sent out in excess of 1000 resumes. And what I have now is a stepping stone . I will never turn a cold shoulder to people that want to talk to me while I am employed. The other thing I found was while you are employed ( even under employed ) you are employable. If you are completely out of work, in their minds there is something wrong with you.( Not my opinion , theirs )The other thing is to leave your options open on relocating. I told the head hunter no Cali and no FL. Anything else was open to discussion.

Best of luck.....
